Two men allegedly snatched a purse from a woman shopping in the garden section at the Salmon Creek Fred Meyer store Monday morning, officials said.

The incident was reported just before 10:30 a.m. at the store at 800 N.E. Tenney Road, according to emergency dispatch logs.

Sherff’s Sgt. Dave Trimble said a woman left her purse in the shopping cart by the road while shopping in the plant section. Two men drove up in a small dark car. The passenger allegedly jumped out, grabbed the purse and got back in the car before it drove away, Trimble said.

The incident was reported as a theft and not a robbery because the purse wasn’t taken directly from the woman, he said.

“It is testament to remind people it’s not a very good idea to leave their purse unattended,” Trimble said.

A sheriff’s deputy took a report.
