MOSCOW, Idaho (AP) — Officials at the University of Idaho say a 22-year-old football player was shot to death in California.

The Los Angeles County coroner’s office says Ken McRoyal, of Carson, Calif., was shot during an argument at 1:30 a.m. Sunday at the Brewery Lofts, a living and working space for artists.

McRoyal walked-on as a receiver at Idaho after two seasons at El Camino Junior College. He earned a scholarship for the 2012 season.

Idaho coach Robb Akey says that “we’ve lost a brother, a teammate, a family member. But, more importantly, a momma lost her son today.”

McRoyal caught six passes for 35 yards in eight games in 2011. He was a native of New Orleans and moved with his family to California after Hurricane Katrina.
