The Major Crash Team is continuing the investigation into this morning’s crash on East Burnside in Portland.

Preliminary information indicates that the vehicle, a 2012 Chevy Traverse SUV, was traveling at a speed of approximately 90 mph just prior to the driver losing control and hitting a telephone pole, tree, fence and yard. One person was ejected and died at the scene.

The person killed in the crash has been identified as 33-year-old Shelby Lynn Williams of Southeast Portland. Investigators believe Williams was the driver in the crash.

The passenger, 28-year-old Cleveland Nelson, was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Traffic was diverted off of East Burnside for several hours as officers processed the crash scene.
