Northern Arizona holds on to beat UC Davis 85-82

DAVIS, Calif. (AP) — Gabe Rogers scored 27 points and Dewayne Russell added 25 points as Northern Arizona spoiled UC Davis’ home opener Sunday, winning 85-82.

Ephraim Ekanem added 12 points for the Lumberjacks (1-2), who gave up the game’s first five points but took the lead for good at 11-10 on Russell’s 3-pointer. UC Davis (0-2) got the lead down to 81-80 with 1:24 to play, but Rogers and Russell each hit a pair of free throws for NAU.

Corey Hawkins, a transfer from Arizona State playing in his second game for UC Davis, led all scorers with 30 points. Ryan Sypkens scored 25 on 9-of-13 shooting and Ryan Howley had 10 points and nine rebounds for the Aggies.
