ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) — Rumor defeated Great Hot by a half-length to win the $100,000 L.A. Woman Stakes on Sunday at Santa Anita.

Ridden by Mike Smith, Rumor ran 6 12 furlongs in 1:17.47 and paid $7.20 and $5.40.

Great Hot returned $16, while Lady of Fifty was another length back in third. Winding Way, the 3-5 favorite, finished last, beaten 7 34 lengths. There was no show wagering because of the four-horse field.

Hall of Fame trainer Richard Mandella said he would consider Rumor for the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint next month at Santa Anita.

The victory, worth $60,000, increased Rumor’s career earnings to $294,188, with five wins in 11 starts.
