The Westfield Vancouver mall has paid to buy and train a successor to a veteran Vancouver police K9 who retired early because of a medical condition.

Officer Brian Viles is now training his new dog, Enzo, a 2-year-old German shepherd.

Enzo will succeed Leo, a 5-year-old German shepherd. Leo has been with the Vancouver Police Department since 2010 and has helped capture dozens of suspects and find drugs on multiple occasions, VPD spokeswoman Kim Kapp said in a news release.

Leo will be recognized for his service and police will introduce Enzo at an event from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the mall.

VPD accepts donations to the K9 fund. Anyone interested in making a donation can phone 360-487-7355.
