Vancouver seeking input on MacArthur Boulevard

MacArthur Boulevard is due for a new coat of microsurfacing in 2013. Vancouver Public Works wants to hear from residents and other frequent users on how they think the existing street might best be configured when the top coat is done.

Should MacArthur keep two vehicle lanes and bicycle lanes in each direction, or two vehicles lanes with shared bicycle lanes in each direction? Or should it change to one vehicle lane and a bicycle lane in each direction? Should some parking be added? Is there some other lane configuration that should be considered?

Those who want to give input should attend a meeting. One is set for 5 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the media center at Marshall Elementary School, 6400 MacArthur Blvd.; the other at 10 to 11:30 a.m. Nov. 3 at River Maiden Coffee House, 602 N. Devine Road.

Microsurfacing is a treatment that forms a thin shell over the street’s existing asphalt, extending the life of the underlying surface. The new striping painted on top will determine the configuration of vehicle lanes, bicycle lanes and parking along the corridor.

Funding for possible changes is limited to striping. Drainage, sidewalk, Americans With Disabilities Act accessibility accommodations and intersection improvements will not be part of the project.
