Spring to the Sky wins Belmont’s Groovy Stakes

NEW YORK (AP) — Spring to the Sky beat Sum of the Parts by a half-length Thursday in the $80,000 Groovy Stakes for 3-year-olds on the turf at Belmont Park.

Javier Castellano was aboard for trainer Bruce Brown as Spring to the Sky earned his first stakes win and second victory in seven starts. The time was 1:07.84 for the six furlongs over the firm course.

Spring to the Sky paid $8.80, $3.90 and $2.70. Sum of the Parts, the 4-5 favorite, returned $2.80 and $2.30, while Artest paid $3.10 to show.
