IRVINE, Calif. (AP) — Pierre-Luc Gagnon will defend his title in the Maloof Money Cup World Skateboarding Championships in Kimberley, South Africa, Sept. 29-30.
The Canadian will compete against a field that includes Alex Perelson, Bob Burnquist, Sandro Dias, Andy MacDonald, Adam Taylor and 12-year-old Tom Schaar, the first skater to land a 1080. Gagnon will also host a clinic for South African skateboarders before competing for the top prize of $75,000, the biggest in vert skateboarding.
Among the pros competing for the $100,000 top prize in the street competition will be Leo Romero, Andrew Reynolds, Lizard King, Ryan Decenzo, Manny Santiago and Tommy Fynn.
In a first in skateboarding, the Maloof Money Cup World Skateboarding Championships will be broadcast to 580 movie theaters across the United States on Oct. 2 at 7:30 p.m. local time.
