Room named for Van Cleve

Hazel Dell — Bud Van Cleve, longtime president of the Northeast Hazel Dell Neighborhood Association, has been the de facto “mayor” of Hazel Dell for decades now. So it’s fitting that a little piece of Van Cleve’s favorite place has been named for him. The meeting room at the new Luke Jensen Sports Park has officially been christened The Bud Van Cleve Community Room. The surprise was sprung on Van Cleve on Sept. 10, during a regular monthly meeting of the Neighborhood Associations Council of Clark County. The event was attended by about 65 of Bud’s family members, friends, admirers and council members. Van Cleve was a champion of this 78th Street sports park when it was still just a notion; naming the room for Van Cleve is “a small gesture in consideration for all of the work that Bud has done for the community,” said county Public Works Director Pete Capell.
