Courtney Force tops Funny Car qualifying

ENNIS, Texas (AP) — Courtney Force raced to the Funny Car qualifying lead Friday in the Texas NHRA Fall Nationals at the Texas Motorplex.

The 24-year-old rookie driver had a run of 4.081 seconds at 308.21 mph in her Ford Mustang.

Tony Schumacher led in Top Fuel, Allen Johnson topped the Pro Stock field, and Hector Arana Sr. had the Pro Stock Motorcycle lead in the second of six events in the NHRA Full Throttle Countdown to the Championship.

Series points leader Schumacher had a run of 3.829 at 320.13. Johnson moved into position to claim a category-best 10th No. 1 qualifying position in Pro Stock, powering his Dodge Avenger to a 6.568 at 211.43. Arana Sr. paced the Pro Stock Motorcycle field with a 6.898 at 195.11 on a Buell.
