48-1 shot Pierrot Lunaire wins steeplechase

NEW YORK (AP) — Pierrot Lunaire, a 48-1 shot, held off Spy in the Sky by a nose Thursday to win the $150,000 Lonesome Glory Steeplechase at Belmont Park.

The 8-year-old gelding, ridden by Bernard Dalton was trained by Blythe Davies, won for the fourth time in 18 starts. His time was 4:37.78 for the 212 miles over the firm turf course.

Pierrot Lunaire paid $99.50, $34.80 and $11.40. Spy in the Sky returned $9.30 and $5 while Charminster paid $2.80 to show.
