Demonstrative wins NY Turf Writers Cup at Saratoga

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) — Demonstrative rallied in deep stretch to overtake Charminster in the final yards and won the $150,000 New York Turf Writers Cup Steeplechase Thursday at Saratoga Race Course.

Robert Walsh rode the 5-year-old R.L. Valentine-trained gelding, who covered the 2 3/8-mile course in 4:33.89 while winning his second race in four starts this year, both at Saratoga.

He earned $90,000 for the owner. Demonstrative paid $13.60, $6.30 and $4.90. Charminster returned $5.60 and $3.70 and Spy in the Sky paid $5.10 to show.
