OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Hall of Fame jockey Kent Desormeaux rode Politicallycorrect to victory in his first start at the Oklahoma Derby, closing with a wide run down the stretch Sunday to beat favorite Willy Beamin by three-quarters of a length.

Politicallycorrect was the widest of the six horses lined up side by side at the top of the stretch, and Desormeaux says he tried to keep the horse from straying outside before he realized that was only slowing him down. He let loose and rode to victory in the $400,000 race for 3-year-olds at Remington Park.

Politicallycorrect went away at 10-1 odds and scored his third career win in a field that included Kentucky Derby entries Prospective, who finished fifth, and Daddy Nose Best, who was sixth.

The winning time was 1:50.23 for 1 1/8 miles on a fast track. Politicallycorrect returned $22.20, $9.20 and $6, Willy Beamin returned $4.20 and $3, and Called to Serve paid $3.80 to show.
