The Ridgefield Raptors extended their winning streak to 10 games with an 8-3 road win over the Bend Elks on Sunday.

No West Coast League team has been hotter than the Raptors, who haven’t lost since an 11-1 defeat at the Portland Pickles on June 13. Ridgefield (14-6) holds a 2 1/2 game lead in the South Division.

Starting pitcher Charlie Royle allowed one hit over five innings to earn the win.

Jackson Nicklaus and Tristan Gomes each had three hits for Ridgefield, which has averaged 6.3 runs per game during the win streak.

Key scoring plays

— Corey Nunez’s two-run double with two outs highlighted a three-run fourth inning for the Raptors. His drive to left scored Nicklaus and Trent Prokes to give Ridgefield a 3-1 lead.

— Prokes earned his second RBI of the game with a groundout to score Jacob Sharp. That gave Ridgefield a 5-1 lead in the sixth inning.

— In the eighth inning, Nicklaus singled to right field to drive in Sharp, who scored three runs Sunday. That gave Ridgefield a 6-1 lead.

Ridgefield pitching

— Royle (Cal Poly-Pomona) was stellar in his first appearance of the season. He struck out three, walked none and allowed just one hit and an unearned run over five innings.

— Peyson Sweeney (Washington) also made his Ridgefield debut. He pitched three shutout innings, allowing four hits, no walks and striking out four.

— Joseph Jasso pitched the ninth inning, allowing two unearned runs, one hit and one walk.

Up next

Ridgefield opens a three-game homestand against Bend on Tuesday at Ridgefield Outdoor Recreation Complex. That marks a stretch in which the Raptors play nine of their next 12 games at home.
