Planned realignment of I-205 delayed

A planned realignment of Interstate 205 as part of ongoing construction work in the Salmon Creek area has been delayed due to this week’s rain, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation. The change had been scheduled to start at 10 p.m. tonight.

Instead, the realignment will be rescheduled as soon as weather allows, according to WSDOT.

When it begins, the traffic shift will move vehicles to the left side of northbound I-205 to allow crews to begin excavating the right lane and shoulder of the freeway. Workers will eventually lower I-205 and move the freeway 40 feet to the east, according to WSDOT.

The work is part of the Salmon Creek Interchange Project, a $133 million effort to remake the northern convergence of I-5 and I-205. The project will construct a new bridge carrying Northeast 139th Street over both freeways; crews are lowering and realigning I-205 to make room for the span and allow enough clearance under it.
