Leavitt to make Mayor’s Fund charity grants

The Mayor Event Fund, a pot of money destined for a charity that was started by Vancouver Mayor Tim Leavitt, is getting ready to make some grants.

At 3 p.m. on Friday, Leavitt and the board of directors of the Mayor Event Fund will award a total of $5,750 to five local nonprofit agencies and efforts. The informal event will take place at Vancouver Marketplace, 210 W. Evergreen Blvd.

The recipients are:

• Parks Foundation of Clark County, $750 for parks and recreation programs. (http://www.parksfoundation.us)

nClark County Sheriff Office’s “Santa’s Posse”, $2,750 for purchase and distribution of food and toys for poor families during the Christmas holiday. (http://santasposse.com)

• Waste Connections’ Christmas Promise, $1,250 to purchase and assemble bicycles, helmets and accessories for needy children during the holiday season.

• Ke Kukui Foundation, $500 supporting the mission of raising awareness of Polynesian culture in Southwest Washington. (http://kekukuifoundation.org)

• Junior Joy Team of S.W. Washington, $500 supporting the spread of positivity and joy throughout Vancouver. (http://thejoyteam.org)
