STATESBORO, Ga. (AP) — Tre Bussey scored 16 points and Jelani Hewitt added 15 with four steals as Georgia Southern raced past Kennesaw State 73-55 on Wednesday night.

Brian Holmes opened the game with a 3-pointer and then fed Angel Mathias for a layup as the Eagles (6-6) zipped out 9-0 and led the entire game.

Mathias finished with 14 points and Holmes 11. The Eagles shot 43.9 percent from the field, and were a near-perfect 17-for-18 from the free-throw line. Georgia Southern outscored Kennesaw State 38-20 in the paint, forced 18 Kennesaw State turnovers, 10 on steals, for another 21 points.

An Orlando Coleman dunk put Kennesaw State (3-9) on the scoreboard six minutes into the game. Coleman finished with 10 points, as did Nate Rucker and Delbert Love. The Owls hit just 19 of 57 field goals.
