Sacramento St. holds off UC Riverside 69-67

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Dylan Garrity scored 14 points, including a pair of free throws with 8 seconds to play, as Sacramento State held off UC Riverside for a 69-67 win Sunday.

Chris Patton’s layup with 6:01 left gave UC Riverside (4-8) its first lead, 61-60, since early in the first half but Sacramento State made 7 of 8 free throws and Garrity scored five points down the stretch to hold off the Highlanders.

The Hornets (4-5) led by as many as 15 points in the first half as UC Riverside made just 8 of 28 shots and Sacramento State went into the break leading 38-28. Despite shooting 52 percent in the second half, the Highlanders made just two field goals in the final 10 minutes of the game.

Mikh McKinney led the Hornets with 15 points and Nick Hornsby grabbed nine rebounds.

Sam Finley scored a career-high 20 points in the loss.
