Comer’s hot hand leads FGCU past Lipscomb 75-62

FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) — Brett Comer scored 10 points as Florida Atlantic powered away from halftime on a 15-5 clip to defeat Lipscomb 75-62 on Wednesday.

The scoring burst in the first 4 minutes of the second half boosted Comer to 24 points, matching his career best, before he sat out the final 10:41 with four fouls.

The Eagles (8-7, 2-0 Atlantic Sun) started conference play 2-0 for the first time. Bernard Thompson and DaJuan Graf each added 13 points for FGCU, a career high for Graf.

Twins Martin and Malcolm Smith led Lipscomb (5-8, 0-2) with 20 and 15 points, respectively. The Bisons were outrebounded 41-31 but were not effective from 3-point range, hitting just 9 of 25 — 3 for 10 after halftime. J.C. Hampton hit 4 of 7 3-pointers for 14 points.

On FCGU’s first possession, Comer found Bernard Thompson on the wing for 3-pointer to collect his 500th career assist.
