PORTLAND — A Vancouver man pleaded no contest Tuesday in Multnomah County Circuit Court to a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm for carrying a rifle on Portland’s Burnside Bridge.

The Oregonian reports 30-year-old Anthony J. Quayle was one of 13 bearded men wearing military style clothing who were questioned by police last August after someone reported seeing the rifle.

The men were crossing the bridge for a “Beards for Breasts” calendar to raise money for cancer research. They planned to have their photo taken under the “Portland, Oregon” bridge sign.

The bridge was closed for about 45 minutes for the police response. Officers seized a rifle and body armor.

Another man in the group was convicted last October of criminal mischief.
