Albany beats Maryland-Baltimore County 65-48

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Mike Black scored 17 points and Jacob Iati 15 to lead Albany to a 65-48 victory over Maryland-Baltimore County in the America East Conference opener for both teams.

The Great Danes (12-3) have won nine of their past 10 games.

Brett Roseboro had 12 points and eight rebounds, and Ryan Cook scored 12 for UMBC (2-12).

Albany shot 45.5 percent from the field (20 of 44) to the Retrievers’ 34.5 percent (19 of 55), and the Great Danes made 20 of 25 free throws to UMBC’s 5 of 9. Albany won the rebounding battle 33-24.

The Great Danes led 30-24 at the break, but Albany’s Peter Hooley and Black made four free throws each around Sam Rowley’s jumper for a 43-28 advantage. After Roseboro knocked down a jumper, Black and Hooley made two foul shots each to lead 47-30 with 11 minutes remaining.
