Quinnipiac pulls away from LIU Brooklyn 82-74

HAMDEN, Conn. (AP) — Ike Azotam made 8 of 10 shots en route to 17 points as Quinnipiac pulled away from LIU Brooklyn 82-74 Saturday in Northeast Conference action.

Dave Johnson and Evan Conti scored 15 points apiece for Quinnipiac (5-8, 1-1), with Conti’s game-high nine rebounds leading the Bobcats to a 39-22 rebounding edge. Ousmane Drame came off the bench for 10 points as Quinnipiac’s bench contributed 21 points, compared to nine for LIU (5-9, 0-2).

Quinnipiac pulled ahead 56-47 after a Conti 3-pointer, but LIU sliced the deficit to 63-61 with 4:36 left to play. The Bobcats made 13 free throws over the final 4 12 minutes to pull away.

Quinnipiac, which had shot below 40 percent in its last three games, hit 50.8 percent (30 of 59) of shots and dished out 18 assists, the Bobcats’ most this season.

Kenny Onyechi and Jason Brickman scored 16 apiece for LIU.
