CULLOWHEE, N.C. (AP) — Lucas Troutman recorded his second double-double of the season as Elon knocked off Western Carolina 80-67 in Southern Conference action Monday night.
Troutman scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Jack Isenbarger added 16 points and Sebastian Koch had 15 for the Phoenix (9-7, 2-2).
Trey Sumler had a career-high 32 points for the Catamounts (7-10, 4-1), who had held sole possession of first in the SoCon’s North division prior to Monday’s game.
Western Carolina led 31-27 at halftime and held the advantage until Troutman’s layup made it 39-39 with 15:59 to play. Isenbarger followed with a 3, and the lead changed hands six times over the ensuing 4 minutes.
Elon ended the pinball pace with a 15-0 run that included two treys by Isenbarger and another by Koch for a 62-48 lead with 7:37 remaining. Western Carolina missed four shots and committed three turnovers during the 3 12-minute run.
