SMITHFIELD, R.I. (AP) — Alex Francis scored 25 points and Shane McLaughlin’s layup with six seconds left gave Bryant a 79-78 overtime victory over Mount St. Mary’s Thursday night in a Northeast Conference thriller.

McLaughlin’s only points of the game won it for the Bulldogs (12-4, 5-0).

Bryant, which got double-figure scoring from Dyami Starks (18 points), Corey Maynard (13), Joe O’Shea (11) and Frankie Dobbs (10), led 60-50 in the second half. Then the Mountaineers (6-10, 1-4) made a furious run.

Rashad Whack fueled it with 8 of his 17 points. When Shivaughn Wiggins (20 points) hit a trey to tie it 67-67, it went to overtime.

The lead exchanged hands, Mount St. Mary’s leading 72-69 until Dobbs’ tying trey. Despite a Francis three-point play, two Dobbs foul shots and his trey, Bryant couldn’t shake the Mountaineers.

Julian Norfleet’s basket with 0:21 left put the Mountaineers up 78-77. Then McLaughlin won it.
