Hunter, Georgia State rally past Towson 71-69

TOWSON, Md. (AP) — R.J. Hunter scored a career-high 27 points, including three late 3-pointers, to help Georgia State hold off Colonial Athletic Association-rival Towson 71-69 Monday night for its third straight victory.

Hunter was 4 of 9 from beyond the arc and hit three 3-pointers in the final 5 minutes as the Panthers (9-1, 4-3) erased a 64-60 deficit and held on for the win.

Hunter drained a trey with 4:09 left to cut the Tigers’ lead to 64-63, and then Devonta White put Georgia State ahead with two free throws. Hunter followed with another trey with 2:41 left for a 68-64 lead, then hit another with 1:07 remaining for a 71-67 advantage.

White added 14 points and Rashaad Richardson tallied 11.

Jerrelle Benimon collected his NCAA-leading 14th double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds for Towson (10-10, 5-2). Jerome Hairston added 16 points and Mike Burwell 14 on 4-of-8 3-point shooting.
