‘Christmas’ comes early for young poetry award winner

Fruit Valley — Second-grader Katya Oleynick of Fruit Valley Elementary School is a prizewinning poet. Her piece, “Christmas,” was chosen by the General Federation of Women’s Clubs as a statewide winner. “Christmas” worked its way up from the local level to the state level. The GFWC is always looking for women who want to serve their community. Its effprts range from the arts to international outreach, but the main Washington state theme is combatting domestic violence.
