DALLAS (AP) — The Dallas Mavericks have re-signed Bernard James after the second-year center cleared waivers.

The Mavericks wanted to keep James but had to put him through waivers for salary cap reasons. Terms of the deal weren’t announced Friday.

James, a former Air Force staff sergeant, was the 33rd pick in the 2012 draft. The Mavericks acquired the rights for James, Jared Cunningham and Jae Crowder in a deal involving No. 17 pick Tyler Zeller.

The 6-foot-10 James played in 46 games with 11 starts, averaging 2.8 points and 2.8 rebounds. He will be the third center behind Samuel Dalembert and Brandan Wright.
