Bomb technicians detonated and disassembled a pipe bomb found in a Hazel Dell-area park Monday evening.

A man walking his dog found a 6-inch metal pipe, with caps at each end and a fuse, under a tree near the playground at Crown Continental Park, also known as Dark Park, in the 1100 block of Northeast 105th Street, said Clark County sheriff’s Sgt. Dave Nelson.

Members of the Portland Metro Explosives Disposal Unit detonated the bomb around 6:20 p.m. It was filled with bird shot and black powder, but not enough powder to actually go off.

The fuse appeared to have been lit before.
