Evergreen schools to host Spanish tour

Evergreen Public Schools will host a Spanish-language tour Wednesday, part of an ongoing effort to reach out to non-English-speaking families in the district.

Carol Fenstermacher, Evergreen Public Schools’ director of community relations, said the district began offering regular community tours in both Spanish and Russian three years ago to “tear down that barrier of language.” They’ve been fairly successful, she said.

The district also hosts a few English-language tours each year.

Next week’s tour will begin at 8 a.m. at the Clark County Skills Center, 12200 N.E. 28th St., before busing visitors to Evergreen High School, Frontier Middle School and Pioneer Elementary School.

The tour is five hours long and includes lunch prepared by culinary students from the Clark County Skills Center.
