St. Francis Brooklyn defeats Sacred Heart 92-80

NEW YORK (AP) — Ben Mockford scored 22 points and St. Francis Brooklyn defeated Sacred Heart 92-80 Saturday in a showdown for the eighth and final Northeast Conference tournament berth.

Mockford made 6 of 11 from 3-point range as the Terriers (12-17, 8-10) made 12 of 27 (44.4 percent). The Pioneers (9-20, 7-11), who lost their seventh straight, were 4 of 18 (22.2 percent) on 3s.

St. Francis, which will play at Robert Morris in the tournament on Wednesday, used an 18-3 run midway through the first half for a 34-21 lead. It started the second half with an 8-2 run for a 53-38 advantage and led by double figures for all but 34 seconds after that.

Jalen Cannon and Akeem Johnson added 15 points each for the Terriers.

Shane Gibson scored 29 points and Louis Montes 20 for Sacred Heart (9-20, 7-11). Gibson is eighth on the Pioneers’ career list with 2,079 points.
