Williams leads Wagner over Monmouth 67-57 in NEC

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. (AP) — Jonathan Williams scored 21 points and recorded a double-double to lead Wagner to a 67-57 victory over Monmouth Saturday night.

The Seahawks (18-11, 12-6 Northeast Conference) have won three games in a row, five of their last six and beat Monmouth (10-21, 5-13) for the second time this season. The Hawks dropped their fourth straight.

Williams’ 21 points came on 8 of 11 shooting from the field and 5 of 5 at the stripe. He grabbed 10 rebounds.

Kenneth Ortiz added 15 points, hitting 6 of 8 free throws. Marcus Burton’s 14 points included 8 of 10 foul shots.

Foul shooting helped Wagner overcome a 2 for 12 3-point performance. The Seahawks hit 23 of 30 free throws.

Jalen Palm came off the Monmouth bench to score 12 points. Ed Waite had a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double. Jesse Steele scored 11 points but was just 4 of 16 from the floor.
