The Clark College baseball team fell short of a doubleheader split against first-place Pierce on Friday, giving up three runs in the bottom of the eighth in the second game, losing 7-6 at Lakewood.

The Penguins (19-21, 10-12 NWAACC West) lost the first game 7-2.

In the second game, Clark took a 4-3 lead in the seventh on Spencer Ramsey’s single, but Pierce evened the score in its half.

Clark scored a run on an error, and Jordan Swofford followed with a 10-pitch at-bat that led to an RBI double, and Clark had a 6-4 lead.

Then Pierce rallied in the eighth for three runs on five hits for the win.

In the opener, Matt Hopp was 3 for 4 for the Penguins.

Clark will host Pierce in a season-ending doubleheader at 1 p.m. today at Kindsfather Field.
