Big Sur goes wire-to-wire to win Monmouth feature

OCEANPORT, N.J. (AP) — Big Sur led wire-to-wire to win the $75,000 Majestic Light Stakes at Monmouth Park on Saturday.

Trained by Ramon Moya and ridden by Moya’s son, also named Ramon, the 5-year-old gelding ran the mile and 70 yards over a good track in 1:42 and returned $20.20, $5.60 and $3.60.

Big Sur finished 1 14 lengths ahead of Spring Hill Farm and Ruler On Ice, who finished in a dead-heat for second. Spring Hill Farm paid $2.60 and $2.80, while Ruler On Ice paid $2.40 and $2.60.

The victory was Big Sur’s fifth in 28 career starts.
