SEATTLE — Traffic through Seattle was jammed Wednesday morning by a truck crash about 4:30 a.m. that blocked the southbound lanes of Interstate 5 downtown between the state convention center and Interstate 90.

The Transportation Department said 2 lanes were reopened through the scene about 9 a.m. but rush hour traffic had backed up five miles or more at times and alternate routes were clogged.

The Washington State Patrol says a semi with two trailers jackknifed on wet pavement. One trailer crushed the cab against a guard rail while the other trailer tipped. The driver was shaken but unhurt. The truck caught fire and was extinguished by firefighters using foam.
