SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Max Jacobsen and Aaseem Dixon each scored a game-high 17 points and were two of four players in double figures for Northern Arizona as they took down UTSA 74-63 in a season opener for both teams Saturday night.
The Lumberjacks shot 42.4 percent from the field and held a 25-21 advantage at half. Midway through the second half they went on a 24-10 run fueled by 3-pointers from Quinton Upshur and Dixon, extending the lead to 66-47 with 3:32 remaining.
The Roadrunners attempted a late surge, outscoring Northern Arizona by eight in the remaining minutes, but couldn’t climb back.
Hyjii Thomas led UTSA with 17 points and Keon Lewis added 15.
Jacobsen finished 6-of-8 in field goal attempts and made all five of his free throws. Upshur scored 15 points and Kris Yanku had 12 for the Lumberjacks.
Gaellan Bewernick hauled in a game-high 11 rebounds and had four assists.
