NEW YORK (AP) — Sliver and Onions beat the pacesetting Nevada Kid by two lengths Thursday in the $77,000 allowance feature at Aqueduct.
The gray 3-year-old gelding trained by Mike Hushion and ridden by apprentice Manuel Franco got his second win in six starts.
Sliver and Onions ran a mile in 1:35.03, paying $7.60, $4.30 and $2.80 as the 5-2 favorite. Nevada Kid returned $5.70 and $3.10 while Freeride paid $2.50 to show.
Javier Castellano, unseated past the wire in Wednesday’s final race, didn’t ride Thursday. Tests at a hospital were negative, and he plans to ride Friday, according to agent Matt Muzikar.
Castellano leads the nation in wins this year with 317.
