Swimmer Romano wins 4th event at grand prix

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Megan Romano won the 100-yard freestyle at the Arena Grand Prix, giving the swimmer four victories in the short-course meet at the University of Minneapolis.

Romano closed strongly over the final 50 yards to touch first in 48.62 seconds Saturday. She also won the 50 and 200 free events, and the 100 back during the three-day meet.

In the 200 individual medley, Darian Townsend of South Africa edged Olympian Conor Dwyer for first. Townsend was timed in 1:43.73 and Dwyer was second in 1:43.76. Austin Surhoff, the son of former major leaguer B.J. Surhoff, was third in 1:44.92.

Dwyer won the 400 IM and the 500 free, and also was second in the 200 free and 200 IM at the meet.

Adam Brown of Britain took the 100 free in 41.89. Brazil Olympian Cesar Cielo was second in 41.90. Yannick Agnel of France was third in 42.63.

Russia’s Arkady Vyatchanin won the 200 back in 1:41.45.
