OCALA, Fla. (AP) — Royal Delta, who twice won the Breeders’ Cup Distaff and was a double Eclipse Award champion, has been retired from racing.

Her connections announced the move Wednesday.

A day earlier, Royal Delta was vanned from Payson Park in Florida to owner Benjamin Leon’s Besilu Farm in Ocala, Fla., the Daily Racing Form reported.

Breeding plans for the mare have not yet been finalized.

Trained by Hall of Famer Bill Mott, Royal Delta won 12 of 22 career starts and earned $4,811,126. She won 10 graded stakes, including six Grade 1 races.

Royal Delta finished fourth in her final career start earlier this month in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff at Santa Anita, a race she won in 2011 and 2012.

She is a contender to win the Eclipse Award for champion older females.
