SHELBYVILLE, Ind. (AP) — Power Broker beat Bradester by 134 lengths in the $500,000 Indiana Derby on Saturday, giving Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert a record third win in the race.
Ridden by Martin Garcia, Power Broker ran 1 1/16 miles on a sloppy track in 1:41.95 and paid $5.40, $3.80 and $3.20 as the 8-5 favorite in the field of 12 3-year-old colts. Baffert also won the race in 2010 with Lookin At Lucky and in 2009 with Misremembered.
Bradester returned $8.20 and $7, while Holy Lute was another half-length back in third and paid $3.80 to show.
The victory, worth $286,812, increased Power Broker’s career earnings to $864,812 with four wins in 10 starts.
