Mayors around Clark County will be making proclamations this month as part of a nationwide effort to reduce the demand for illegal drugs.

The proclamations, which are scheduled to take place over the next three weeks, all recognize the last week in October, 23rd to 31st, as Red Ribbon Week. Members of the Lewis & Clark Young Marines will attend city council meetings to distribute ribbons and explain about the Red Ribbon Week program.

The weeklong celebration honors Enrique “Kiki” Camerena, a DEA Special Agent who was uncovering a multibillion dollar drug pipeline in Mexico when he was kidnapped and killed in 1985.

The proclamations are scheduled as follows:

Today, La Center City Hall, 7 p.m.

Thursday, Ridgefield Community Center, 6:30 p.m.

Monday, Washougal City Hall, 7:00 p.m.

Oct. 21, Camas City Hall, Vancouver City Hall, Woodland City Hall, all at 7 p.m.
