TORONTO (AP) — Lanni Marchant set a Canadian record at the Toronto Waterfront Marathon on Sunday with a time of 2 hours, 27 minutes, 59 seconds, nearly four minutes better than her previous best time.

Marchant’s run bested the previous national mark of 2:28:36 set 28 years ago by Sylvia Ruegger 28 of Oshawa, Ontario.

Marchant, who is from London, Ontario, won $28,000. She was 44th in the women’s marathon at the world track and field championships in Moscow last summer.
