Talking Points: Baby Andy Reid

1.

Awwww.

Every Sunday is Halloween at NFL stadiums, but “Baby Andy Reid” has to be one of the best football costumes Talking Points has ever seen.

Darth Raider probably thinks this little Chiefs fan is cute, even if he isn’t his father.

The same can’t be said for Eagles fans.

They booed Santa Claus, so they probably aren’t feeling warm and cuddly about a little rendition of the coach Philly fired, only to lead Kansas City to an 8-0 record this year.

2.

The Portland Timbers won’t have the area’s undivided attention for its first home playoff game in modern franchise history.

The Timbers will play Thursday, Nov. 7, which happens to be the same night No. 2 Oregon plays No. 5 Stanford in the Pacific-12 Conference game of the year. Their first playoff game, on the road the previous Saturday, coincides with the Trail Blazers’ home opener.

Note to Major League Soccer: Have your playoffs at a time when the sports calendar isn’t so crowded.

3.

Like a rare planetary alignment, this week sees the major leagues of football, baseball and basketball in season at the same time.

In watching all three, what stands out is how well the NBA markets its stars and its marquee matchups. Baseball sells history, the NFL sells itself and the NBA sold Tuesday’s NBA opener as LeBron vs. Derek Rose.

That’s how you get people to watch a regular season game when you share the calendar with the NFL and the World Series.
