Alcorn St defeats Mississippi Valley St 35-28

LORMAN, Miss. (AP) — Arnold Walker rushed for two fourth-quarter touchdowns, leading Alcorn State to a comeback win over Mississippi Valley State 35-28 Saturday in the conference opener for both teams.

Down 21-13 in the fourth quarter, Alcorn State’s (2-1, 1-0 Southwestern Athletic Conference) Terrence Green recovered a fumble at the MVSU 17-yard line. Walker carried three straight times for a Brave’s touchdown and John Gibbs, Jr. connected with Tavoris Doss on a two-point conversion.

The Braves recovered an onside kick, sparking a Gibbs’ 22-yard touchdown pass to LaDarrien Davis, putting the Braves up 28-21. During their next offensive series, the Braves rode Walker’s back four straight times, concluded with his 26-yard touchdown run.

Walker had 18 carries for 118 yards, cracking Alcorn State’s top 10 for career rushing leaders.

Patrick Ivy led Mississippi Valley State (0-3, 0-1) with three touchdown passes and 83 yards rushing.
