Southwest Washington Behavioral Health and its community partners are celebrating Mental Health Month in May with an assortment of activities.

This year’s event aims to build public recognition about the importance of mental health to overall health and wellness.

Here are some of the events planned in Southwest Washington:

o Southwest Washington Behavioral Health is hosting a poster contest with the theme, “Visions of Recovery,” to reinforce the message that people can and do recover from mental illness and addiction. Anyone living in Clark, Cowlitz and Skamania counties is eligible to participate.

Winners will be selected from youth 17 and younger and adults 18 and older categories. The top three in each category will receive gift certificates.

Contest rules and entry forms are available at www.swbh.org or by calling 360-397-8222.

o Posters from the contest will be on display for public viewing and voting May 8 at the Center for Community Health, 1601 E. Fourth Plain Blvd. and May 16-17 at Vancouver Community Library, 901 C St.

o The Children’s Center is hosting its fundraiser, “Glamorous Gams 2,” at 6 p.m. May 31 at the Hilton Vancouver Washington. Tickets are $50.
