A Vancouver man fell asleep and rolled the car he was driving Friday evening on Interstate 5 southbound, near Milepost 13, according to Washington State Patrol Trooper Will Finn.

A car left the roadway, hit the barrier and rolled a couple of times before ending up on its top in the grassy median, said Clark County Fire & Rescue Battalion Chief Tim Dawdy.

Although the driver and his passenger inside the car weren’t seriously injured, they were still transported to a local hospital, Dawdy said. The left lane of I-5 northbound was blocked by emergency vehicles until about 5:30 p.m.

Driver Zachary Mattson, 21, was cited by the WSP for second-degree negligent driving.
