Vancouver announces total recreational burn ban

High fire danger prompted the city of Vancouver to issue a total ban Tuesday on recreational burning until conditions improve.

The ban follows record-tying high temperatures and strong winds this week. It started Tuesday, and will remain in effect until further notice, according to the city.

Recreational fires, campfires and fires in outdoor fireplaces or chimney devices are prohibited during the ban. Approved propane or charcoal barbecues, however, are still allowed.

Violations of the ban could result in citations, according to the city.

The city announcement came a day after the state Department of Natural Resources expanded its statewide burn ban to include all outdoor burning, “with no exceptions,” on DNR-protected lands.
