Baby, it’s cold outside! Lyrics from a seasonal tune and befitting to the beginning of the winter season. Highs Monday remained in the 30s in most areas of the county unless you were away from the influence of those cold easterly winds.
Vancouver only struggled to 37 degrees for a high after a chilly 26 degrees in the early morning hours for the low temperature. Clouds appeared just before sunrise, bringing that looming threat of icy precipitation, but we escaped that event, thankfully.
We are actually between the warm southerly jet stream and the colder northern jet stream. High pressure will rebuild east of the Cascades and strong east winds will blow once again tonight and Wednesday as more energy from the southerly branch gets near and keeps the offshore flow going.
Rainfall Monday remained in the southern Willamette Valley, where some freezing rain was reported in Eugene, Ore., and several inches of snow fell in south-central Oregon. Despite the chilly temperatures I don’t foresee any snow or ice in our local area for at least the next week and maybe longer at this point.
