LAS VEGAS — Water experts from 11 Western states, several hydrology engineers and federal officials are talking about drought during a two-day workshop in Las Vegas organized by the Western Governors’ Association.
The meetings Monday and Tuesday are being hosted by Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval at the Renaissance Hotel.
The topic is, “Drought Impacts and Solutions for Water Supply Management,” and Deputy U.S. Interior Secretary Michael Connor is speaking Monday about the federal role in planning for shortage.
Participants are from various public, private and research entities in Arizona, California, Colorado, Montana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Wyoming and Nevada.
Their discussion about drought in the West comes after governors from eight states held executive meetings during the weekend about common issues including energy, rangeland management and water quality and quantity.
