The Chieftains survived a fourth-quarter rally to edge the host team on Friday in consolation play at the Curtis Holiday Tournament.
South Kitsap knocked off River late Thursday in the first round of the tournament. Columbia River (4-2) will play Saturday in the consolation final.
On Friday, Chad Pedigo scored 11 of his 16 points in the third quarter to help the Chieftains build a 13-point lead. River’s lead was 10 points midway through the fourth quarter. Joey Bean made 5 of 6 free throws in the fourth quarter, including two that put River up by three points with seven seconds left. The Chieftains then fouled to prevent Curtis from trying to tie the score with a 3-point shot.
Curtis scored 27 points in the fourth quarter but never caught Columbia River
Bean led Columbia River with 19 points and Spencer Long scored 14 points. Pedigo was 4 for 4 from 3-point range in the second half.
